Dating In The 21st Century with Jigtalk | AD

Have you ever heard an old relative of yours talk about how they met their other half? I have, and a lot of the older generation in my family met their lovers at a social dance. They would go to a dance with a group of their friends and meet their interest with a group of his friends, and that would be their way of dating and getting to know each other, and they are still together now 50 and 60 years later.

A little different to how dating goes down now, huh?

Those days seem well and truly long gone. The only way we see dating occur like that now is if it is portrayed in a film.

Dating in the 21st Century is extremely different now. Before we have even met our perfect match we have already imagined an idea of what they look like, from their size, height, hair style, eye colour, hobbies and in an extreme case – what they do for a living. Unfortunately, that person doesn’t even exist.

Online dating is extremely superficial. Who can honestly say they have read somebodies bio before looking at their pictures? I will hold my own hand up and say I only read the bio if I was extremely interested in that person’s looks and I wanted to know more about that person before I swiped right. In my own right, that was my own loss because I probably swiped left on some incredible people but because they didn’t fit my imaginative expectations I declined them.

This is where the new dating app on the scene, Jigtalk is perfect for stopping you judging somebody on their looks and focusing on their personality and how well you connect in conversation.

Logo.jpgThe app covers your profile picture with a jigsaw puzzle of 16 pieces, once two Jigtalkers have mutually matched with one another you are then able to remove a jigsaw piece one at a time when a conversation starts flowing. Once 8 mutual messages have been exchanged the full image of who you have been talking to is revealed. Connecting to somebody is ensuring you are able to hold a good conversation with one another, and Jigtalk promotes conversation and getting to know about that person before their face is revealed.

I personally, love the idea of this app because it’s basically the dating app version of The Voice (but without the singing, of course!). Jigtalk is the most gamified dating app on the market, so if you love games and you want to get to know somebody new, it’s the app for you!

The two images below show my face once normally, and the other once it has been ‘jigged up’. This is the image my matches or other people on the app will see as they are swiping left and right. It’s pretty cool, my whole face is covered and only my forehead on my face is on show, and lets be honest nobody can determine the opposite sexes attractiveness by seeing a forehead.

Once you match with someone (you gorgeous little thing) don’t worry if you’re then stuck on what to say to spark up a conversation because a witty thought provoking ice breaker question is provided which is a great way to spark off a conversation without any awkwardness. I come across ice breakers such as:

  • What is your favourite childhood film?
  • What were you doing three hours ago
  • You create a hashtag that goes viral. What is it?

So if you can’t think of what to say, the app’s helpful feature gives you a talking point.

A fresh twist on modern day dating and will put the spark back into talking to one another again without physical attractiveness coming into the equation. I would highly recommend all singletons to download this app and give it a try. You never know, you could meet your future partner!

Do you think you will be getting jiggy with it anytime soon?

I have never tried a dating app but I think if this was like a find your perfect friend app I’d totally go for it! I really need some real friends right now! Wouldn’t it be nice?

I met my boyfriend through Tinder, and I definitely know what you mean when you say that we all judge people by their photos and looks rather than what is in their bio. I think the one reason that tipped me over the edge and made me swipe right was because one of this pictures made me laugh (which I guess isn’t too much to do with looks) but still, it wasn’t because of his interests.

I love the idea of this app, it certainly will be great at helping you actually find people you connect with rather than people who you think are gorgeous but you have nothing in common with! Great post!

Aw that’s so sweet, it’s strange because you could actually swipe left on somebody who could be so precious in your life but because they don’t look how you think they should you decline them. Thanks for reading, the app really is great and needed in this day and age! X
